Also, she is known for her work in theatre, specifically for the starring roles of Emmie Thibodeaux in the Broadway show Caroline or Change (2004) in which she was awarded the Tony Award Best Female Featured Performer Award was awarded to her as well as Beneatha Youther from the Broadway Revival of A Raisin in the Sun (2015) for which she was awarded the Tony Award Best Female Featured Performance in a Musical was nominated for her.
